Little Mommies - Review and Giveaway!

For some odd reason, little kids want to be adults. I know, I don't get it either! But, they'll play for hours in their make-believe kitchen, pretend to clean, and they love having a little one of their own to take care of.

In fact, just this morning, Dulce said to me, "Mommy, when I grow up, then I'm going to have someone to take care of."

Then she got sad, thinking about how I wouldn't have any more babies when she and her sister grew up. Meanwhile, I was doing mental cheers. Haha, okay, maybe not.

Something that's been nurturing this desire in my kids, though, is the package we got last week from Mattel!

We got two amazing dolls, marking Milestones. Princess and the Potty and Everyday Moments. While one twin is feeding her baby, the other can help her baby go potty afterward.

They loved the little spoon, and I love that when you flip the food plate in the bowl, it becomes a whole other meal.

And the potty. The glorious, makes-its-own-flush-sound and flips-from-clean-to-dirty potty. This was the main attraction!

My kids love the dolls because they're able to actually take care of them in real ways. I love the dolls because they don't come with a ton of tiny pieces for me to lose, vacuum up and clean. Like the cap on the brunette doll? It stays on. It. Stays. On. Oh, how glorious. Thank you, Mattel.

On the whole, we're really enjoying our Little Mommy dolls here! (So much that the potty is currently in Toy Siberia ... ie: the top of the fridge.)

And the great news is, I get to give a set away! That's right! Sign up here to receive both Everyday Moments and Princess and the Potty! Two dolls, one giveaway, hours of fun!

Review - Sweet As Me Dolls from Little Mommy

When we arrived home from vacation, you can imagine my girls' joy when they saw a surprise waiting for them. There's nothing they like better than presents. Ice cream rates a close second.

We tore into it a few days later (I'm that mean mommy that makes them wait until it's a good time for me), and they've been  playing with their Little Mommy Sweet As Me dolls since.

The best thing about these dolls for the girls is that the toys represent girls their own age, who do the things they are interested in doing. Now, instead of being someone's mommy, they're someone's playmate!

They also came with a change of clothes and each girl has been "going to a party," "stomping in rain puddles," and "going to ballet" several times in the past few days. While I still have to help them change the clothes, I make them watch me closely each time and explain what I'm doing, which order the steps go in.

"First you tear open the velcro, then you find her arms and slip them through, then you pull the dress off gently down her legs."

I have high hopes they'll be dressing and undressing the dolls themselves very soon.

We've had very few problems with the dolls, and most of them stem from the fact that I have twins. For instance, one has curly dark hair, like them. The other has straight blond hair (thankfully, like mommy). That could have been a thing. I've also had to hide the purple headband, the tiara and the ballet purse. Why? Because there is only one of each, and they were so coveted that my kids were considering turning to violence to get them away from the other. We'll throw them back into the ring slowly and see how it goes.

The only problem I have is with the ballet outfit. That's a mommy outfit. There is no way my girls will be able to get that article of clothing on the doll without my help. It's got attached tights, so that you can't just pull the dress on through her legs, you have to carefully inch the fabric up each leg until it makes a snug fit. That's pretty difficult for a three and a half year old. Of course, that would be their favorite outfit.

And as if we could ever run out of games to play with the dolls right here in our living room, Little Mommy has added a Facebook application with a billion cool ideas and games for you and your kids. Perfect for the "I'm bored, and I don't want to play with my old toys anymore" tantrum. Because with the new activities, which even include recipes and scrapbooking, the old toys become new again.

We'll be enjoying these dolls probably for years to come, maybe even until the day the girls can get that ballet costume on themselves!

Little Mommies

Something that my girls love to do is be mothers.

I don't know why. I certainly don't make a particularly good showing of it most days. But, nonetheless, they love to take care of their toys, put them down for naps, soothe their fears, and feed them. They scold them when they're bad. They hug them when they're good. My girls think being a mommy is the end-all, be-all. Just today they compared their heights to me.

"I'm almost as tall as you! And, look! My hands are almost as big as yours! And my arms are almost hairy like yours!" (Mental note, check into Ideal Image as soon as we're rich.)

So, when the Little Mommy Baby So New dolls came, my girls went wild.

They looked just like normal dolls to me, but, really, do you need anything more than a normal doll? My kids don't. I don't know if it's their age, or personalities, or both, but they took to the dolls as if they'd been missing their best friends their whole lives up till now.

They immediately started feeding their babies. Obviously the dolls would be hungry after such a long journey.

Notice, no automatically filling bottles, no eyes opening and shutting, no annoying baby gibberish or motorized parts. Just a doll. They loved them.

After breakfast, it was time for a nap. The girls put their new babies down with care.

For me, it's a perfect toy. It doesn't make noise, it keeps my kids busy. They get to emulate practices they've had used on them for their entire lives, and they get a chance to be in control. They use their imaginations to come up with troubles and problems for their babies that they can then solve. It teaches responsibility and sharing.

As far as it "smelling like a newborn," though, I'm not sure about that. There is a baby-powder smell when they're fresh out of the box, but it's not necessary, really. Newborns rarely smell like that, in my experience, and without any other gimmicky bells and whistles, this little add-on seems out of place.

Still, no complaints here. A baby-powder smell isn't really a drawback, is it?

Check them out here.

Little Mommy dolls sent to us for review, but the thoughts in this review are my own. As you can see from the pictures, the girls agree.
