I think the parents are being rather self-indulgent by talking about it the way they are. I get what they're trying to do, but in trying that hard, they're failing.
Also, I'm really bothered by their lack of structure at home, but that's a whole other story...
-EmilyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2621701638860930715.post-6370643141946225122011-06-03T20:47:16.276-04:002011-06-03T20:47:16.276-04:00I totally appreciate that you jumped in a gave us ...I totally appreciate that you jumped in a gave us your opinions - and explained them. I 100% disagree, but that's okay. I'm just excited that you chose to enter the debate and put yourself out there - where people are able to agree or disagree.Moniquehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17023625442346811083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2621701638860930715.post-90675869749681396112011-06-02T21:55:05.312-04:002011-06-02T21:55:05.312-04:00You really hit on my initial reaction to the story...You really hit on my initial reaction to the story. I couldn't help but think that forcing a child to keep their gender a secret isn't really any less oppressive than forcing a child into a specific gender identity/role.Fine and Fairhttp://fineandfair.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2621701638860930715.post-54976877575066641882011-06-02T20:56:41.536-04:002011-06-02T20:56:41.536-04:00And by commenting on it and poking the issue furth...And by commenting on it and poking the issue further you continue the practice of putting this child unwittingly into the spotlight. Psychology dictates parents treat different gendered children unintentionally - regardless of your intentions to be "gender neutral". Besides, science and biology have proven over and over again that there are psychical differences that result in different behaviors, communication styles, etc. for males and females. What are these parents going to do when their baby becomes a preschooler and figures out what kind of equipment they've got down there and wants to be like all the other kids?

Some people are nuts. Especially about their kids. That aint ever going to changeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
